WELCOME Welcome to the Pinecrest Health Office web site.    Please visit this site to learn about common illnesses that are being seen at our school and/or how to access other health information about your child.

Your Pinecrest Nurse is: Samantha Larsen
The Health Office hours are school days from  7:30 am – 3:00 pm.

YOUR CHILD IS IMPORTANT Please be sure to keep your child’s health information up to date with the nurse.   The nurse needs to know information like: health issues (asthma, diabetes, ADD/ADHD, lactose intolerance, etc), immunizations that have been updated, medications your child is taking and significant illnesses (chicken pox, strep, measles, etc.). If you have changed jobs, addresses, cell phone #’s, etc. please let the office know.   If your child becomes sick during the school day and needs to go home, the nurse needs to locate an appropriate person to pick up your child.

MEDICATIONS Please remember that no medications can be given at school without parental or guardian written permission.   In addition, ALL prescription medications require orders written by a doctor before the school can give them.   Non prescription medications that need to be given more than 10 times in a given school year also require a Physician signature (and parent signature).

If you need to send medications to school for your child, they need to bring a note from you stating when, how much, and why your child requires the medication.   Medication permission forms (one is for non-prescription the other for prescription) are available on the Health Services Website under Medication.  Please be sure to fill out the form completely.   Send the medication in its original bottle so that the nurse can verify what medication is being given and it's expiration date.

KEEP YOUR CHILD HEALTHY

A student's health impacts their ability to learn.  Help keep your child healthy by doing the following.

  • Teach your children to wash their hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub. You can set a good example by doing this yourself.

  • Teach your children not to share personal items like drinks, food or unwashed utensils, and to cover their coughs and sneezes with tissues.Covering up their coughs or sneezes using the elbow, arm or sleeve instead of the hand when a tissue is unavailable.

  • Know the signs and symptoms of the flu. Symptoms of the flu include fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit, 37.8 degrees Celsius or greater), cough, sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, and feeling very tired. Some people may also vomit or have diarrhea.

  • Keep sick children at home for at least 24 hours after they no longer have fever or do not have signs of fever, without using fever-reducing drugs.Keeping children with a fever at home will reduce the number of people who may get infected.

Do not send children to school if they are sick. Any children who are determined to be sick while at school will be sent home.
