Maud Hart Lovelace Reading Challenge

2012-2013 Maud hart Lovelace Reading Challenge

Who: Pinecrest Elementary 4th grade students (participation is voluntary)

What: The Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award is a Minnesota children's choice book award. This year fourth graders have the opportunity (and challenge!) to read the nominees. They will receive a bookmark with the 12 book titles on them

You can find these books in our media center, at the public library, or at bookstores. Students who have read at least 3 of the titles will be able to vote for their favorite in April. Students who read five or more will be able to participate in a Maud Hart Pizza Party (or Ice Cream Party) in the library!

When: Students vote for their favorite Maud Hart Lovelace nominee in March. The winner is announced April 25th on Maud Hart Lovelace's birthday. Students must read 5 books by Friday, April 30th in order to attend the Maud Hart party at Pinecrest Elementary.

Why: The Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award is done throughout Minnesota with the purpose to encourage recreational reading among school-age children.

After students finish reading the book they must fill out a form, which includes describing their favorite part of the book in 4-5 sentences. These forms are available in the Media Center.
